Evan Hargrave is a composer and performer based in Portland Oregon. His experience performing a broad range of repertoires, from renaissance polyphony to contemporary collaborations, have informed his unique compositional approach that melds modernist sonorities with contrapuntal lyricism.
"Mimosa," named after one of the stars of the Southern Cross constellation, is part of an ongoing project to write a collection of inventions and sinfonias (brief 2- and 3-voice compositions). In the collection, each constellation presents a unique metatonal system of harmonies, half familiar and half foreign like the distant stars of the night sky.
During my MMus in Composition, I also undertook a serious study of the organ, which has deeply impacted my approach to music more broadly. This is a fun diptych by Jehan Alain and one of my best recordings.
